Ryui Nishiogikubo 10th Anniversary

Ryui Nishiogikubo 10th Anniversary

Ten years ago, Ryui opened its first flagship store
on a small street in Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo.
Thanks to the many customers who have supported us,
as well as the creators who have shared connections
with our designers, Ryu Hinata and Yui Taira,
we are now celebrating our 10th anniversary.
As we reach this milestone, we look back on our journey
and wish to express our heartfelt gratitude
for all the relationships that have been nurtured here.

Lined with old buildings and small independent shops,
Nishi-Ogikubo is a town filled with a nostalgic charm.
In this place where craftsmanship and culture
naturally blend into everyday life,
people who value individuality and sensitivity gather.

It has been ten years since Ryui opened its store here.
Within the quiet, intimate space
tucked away in a small alley,
we have shared countless conversations with visitors
who come to see and touch our jewelry.
Through the small window, light shifts gently
with each changing season, filling the space
with moments that have become truly irreplaceable.
Here, we share scenes of the storefront and interior—
capturing the same quiet atmosphere
that has remained unchanged since our opening.

At the entrance, the first thing that greets visitors is a hexagonal glass display case, showcasing Ryui’s bridal rings alongside the Eternal Jewelry collection—our collaboration with minä perhonen.

A glass display case built into the wall showcases jewelry that changes subtly over time — its selection shifting thoughtfully with each theme or collection on view.

Jewelry pieces are also displayed in the small window. It brings us quiet joy when people passing by pause to take a look inside.

The floral arrangement — a symbolic presence in our shop, almost like its own signature tree — is specially crafted for us by cotito, a flower and confectionery shop also located here in Nishi-Ogikubo.

Taken in 2015, at the time of completion. The wooden door radiated a youthful brightness — looking back now, it gently conveys the passage of time.

There was also a time when we decorated the space with seasonal fresh flowers and displayed jewelry on a torso mannequin.

In October 2015, Ryui’s directly managed store was
born in the town of Nishi-Ogikubo.
Here, designers Ryu and Yui look back together
on the journey from those early days to the present.
Reflecting on ten years spent alongside the shop,
they share their memories from that time
and the thoughts they hold today.

Ryu:
Looking back, it feels like both ten years have passed — and yet, only ten years. Ryui itself is now in its seventeenth year, so the Nishi-Ogikubo store opened in our seventh. In the early years, we were still balancing jewelry-making with other work, so it was around two or three years after we began focusing solely on jewelry that we opened the shop. At that time, our custom orders were gradually increasing, but we also felt the challenge of not having a dedicated place where we could meet customers and show them our pieces. In that sense, opening a store felt like a natural step forward.

Yui:
Yes, it really brings back memories. As we kept going that way, we were fortunate that the number of bridal ring orders gradually increased. Carrying and transporting so many samples each time became quite a task, and that’s when we started saying, “It would be nice to have a shop of our own, even a small one.”

Ryu:
And we thought it would be nice to create a calm space where people could take their time to look at the pieces.
